The early look – Saturday July 15

We’ve run our eye over the early markets and found a couple of runners that are worth considering having an early play on.

Caulfield Race 2, No. 7 Do It Again
We were really impressed with this blokes trial, where he closed really nicely on trial winner  Paint This City. Trainer Greg Eurell has been quoted as saying this gelding is a genuinely nice horse. We’ve missed the big price, $9 was available early doors, but the $5 he currently finds himself at still presents some good value.

Caulfield Race 3, No. 1 Hot Dipped
Tasmanian star filly who has won multiple black type races in her home state. Looks to have knocked into a really thin race here and is unbeaten at 1200m (3 from 3). Gets in really well with the 3kg claim from Brandon Stockdale and with some luck from barrier 7, she’ll be right in the finish. If you shop wisely you should be able to get around the $9.

Rosehill Race 1, No. 2 Calculated
Wow this bloke was impressive breaking his maiden first up at Canterbury, didn’t handle the tight track before Bowman struck one on his backside and he just took off. I think we are getting a big price about him due to the Waterhouse/Bott trained Siege Of Quebec who won well on debut. I’m more than happy being in this son of So You Think’s camp.

Rosehill Race 6, No. 1 Yesterday’s Songs
I think he’s actually going much better than his form reads, when in Queensland he hasn’t had the best of luck, getting blocked for runs at crucial times. He gets in pretty well with the claim for Brock Ryan and draws nicely in 1. If he can gets some clear running over the final furlong, he’s a great each way chance at $14.

Morphettville Race 7, No. Itz Invincible
One of the fastest horses in Australia, he doesn’t go a yard past 1000m, but conditions look to really suit him here. Rail is out 9m so should get a bit of a sling shot of the bend and with the claim from apprentice Caboche, be might hard to chase down. I think he still presents value at the current $2.50 quote, I think he will jump closer to $2.

Sunshine Coast Race 4, No. 15 Sista Act
I recon they’ve got this girls price a touch wrong, had plenty of excuses last time and was racing well previously. Will go to the front and is rock hard fit now, she’s great value at around $17.

Belmont Race 6, No. 3 Cruachan
Absolute forget from last start when didn’t handle the wet and deteriorating track. Back on top of the ground and drawn ok, trip looks ideal, time to get on.
