DOOMBEN, WEDNESDAY JUNE 28

By Brock Anderson @brockyando87

Rail Position: +10m Entire Circuit

Track Conditions: Soft 5

Track Comments: This is a reasonably sized track but the sweeping downhill run into the home straight generally means that it is tough to make ground and  leaders are advantaged, especially with the rail out so far like it is today.

Race 2, No. 2 Capital Connection

This gelding is on debut from the astute Tony Gollan yard and has plenty of ability by the looks of his only trial a little under a month ago when he finished 2nd but he wasn’t asked to do much and was under a vice like grip, from the good gate I expect Robbie Fradd to either lead or sit just behind the leaders and will be winning this very average contest today. Take the $2.50 that is currently available as I expect he will be starting much shorter then that. Get on!

Race 6 No. 1 Sneaky Glance
This gelding from the very strong Toby Edmonds yard took a few starts to figure out how to be a racehorse but boy has he been impressive since racing up in this neck of the woods, he beat a smart one last time out and I suspect this bloke is being targeted at the Grafton Guineas in 2 weeks time, he will settle off them today but this field isn’t overly big and seriously lacks depth so I expect him to chime in on the bend and put them away quite comfortably.
Race 7, No. 7 Heart Skipt A Beat
This filly doesn’t win out of turn but she’s always thereabouts, her runs of late have been on par performances with her racing  without much luck, 12 months ago she ran an absolute bottler of a 3rd placing in the Group 1 JJ Atkins over a similar distance and although she hasn’t shown much since she drops panels in grade for this event and from the good gate she should get every conceivable chance today, at the $10.00 currently available she is great each way value and will give you a great sight.

Gold Coast based trainer Toby Edmonds has had a break out season and here at Doomben he has dominated with 27 wins from just 92 starters which gives him an unbelievable strike rate of almost 30%, he has some great chances here today and I expect him to get at least one winner on the board.

Race 4 No. 4 Sharpe Hussler
This boy hasn’t won in a fair while but he is always thereabouts and drops a long way in grade for this event today, he must be ready to fire today as he has been smashed in early betting from $3.30 into $2.70 and generally when this stable puts the money on they rarely miss.

Leg 1 (Race 5) 1,3,8,10

Leg 2 (Race 6) 1

Leg 3 (Race 7) 1,2,7

Leg 4 (Race 8) 3,4,6,11

A $48 outlay will get you 100% of the dividend.

SELECTIONS

Race 1: 1,3,6,2 (Absolutely terrible race, #1 should win, if it doesn’t I think Pony Club will be its next stop)

Race 2: 1**,6,9,11 (#1 has trialled well and will go very close, big watch on #6)

Race 3: 13,3,5,7 (#13 was very good on debut and is juicey odds at the  $6.00)

Race 4: 4**,6,5,7 (#4 has been backed off the map and drops along way in grade)

Race 5: 1,10,8,3 (#1 flies fresh and could be too good for them here, #10 will be highballing in front and could be hard to catch with the rail out so far)

Race 6: 1**,2,6,5 (#1 is a very nice up and coming horse and should be winning this event today)

Race 7: 7*,2,1,5 (#7 finds the easiest race she has seen in her career, the stable mate #2 is the main danger)

Race 8: 11,4,3,6 (#11 will be peaking third up today, forgive #4 for his ordinary effort last time out)
